Mover

“Mover” is a single-channel video concerned with themes of colonization, Mexican migration, and nationalism. The video was filmed on the streets of Aylmer, Ontario while González was moved for the recording by a Canadian person through the town. The video is accompanied by an audio sent by González’s maternal grandmother to her via Whatsapp.

The audio is González’s maternal grandmother talking to her three parrots while they are taking a sunbath. She mentions the importance of bathing to wash out any odour, their desire to fly away, and each of the three parrot personalities. She finalizes by singing two lullabies: one known to be a popular Spaniard one named “Membru se fue a la guerra” and one popular song from a 90's TV show in Mexico, “El patio de mi casa.”
